For a girl of Latin descent turning 15 is a day they look forward to, as in accordance with culture, this birthday called their “Quinceanera” is the moment signifying their transition into a young woman. But in 2020 things are different. In the middle of a global pandemic we are told to stay inside, keep a safe distance from others and not to gather in large gatherings. Imagine looking forward to something for 15 years only to be told “you have to wait a little longer”.
Enter Super Mom Laura. How does one find a way to navigate through regular activities in an unprecedented time? As we keep in touch with the news daily, I am sure you have seen the trend has been to put together a car parade of family and friends to celebrate a special moment. Laura did just this for Krisalein. So as the cars piled up at the end of the block and an amazingly decorated cake was set up outside their apartment building in Toronto, Krisalein was led out to a waiting surprise.
We love to document moments, to story tell moments of one’s life using imagery that requires no words. As you will see, the emotions on Krisalein’s face were evident and she was able to celebrate her significant birthday in true pandemic fashion. Though a bigger celebration is likely to follow when as a society we emerge on the brighter side of this pandemic, this car parade was a way to tell this young lady how much she is loved by those around her.
