We always include engagement sessions for our wedding clients, as these sessions are vital for many
reasons. Sometimes clients will waiver as to whether or not they think it is important; take it from us
ensure that when you book your photographer, make sure an engagement session is included.
In most cases, unless you have worked previously with your photographer, this will be the first time you
are getting together with your photographer following your selection process to get in front of the
camera. Breaking the ice for the first time, without the hustle and bustle of your wedding day, in a
private session will allow both client and photographer to become accustomed to each other and to
learn each other tendencies. When your wedding day rolls around, having done a previous session with
your photographer will make your day a breeze.
Another great reason for some alone time is location. Maybe there is something special about your
favourite coffee shop? Or maybe there is a location that holds intimate feelings for the both of you, that
may not be able to be included in your day, well here is a chance to have some images done in your
location of meaning and still have it included with your wedding memories. Is it the place he first asked
her on a date? The location where he proposed? It could even be a location tied to a joint passion, like
hiking, travel, or perhaps a sport; all of these would create a number of memorable moments.
We have had the chance to be a part of surprise engagements, so being able to pull together a group of
vendors to test them out for your wedding would be amazing! In such a scenario, you could potentially
have hair, makeup, photo and video all included in one event.
When the curtain goes up on your wedding day there will be several sets of eyes watching your every
step and soaking in these special moments with you, that can be a nerve wracking time for some, so an
engagement session is really good practice for your wedding day. During your time together with your
photographer you will be able to get comfortable with poses, direction and a smoothness in having your
time documented, so when it comes to your wedding day it will be so much easier knowing you have
already done this and this will allow both of you to soak in your wedding day, which is so important as
you will realize how fast this day goes when you are able to reflect on it in the years to come.
Finally, planning a wedding can, at times, seem like a long list of to-do lists, deadlines and targets so why
not simply take a few moments to enjoy the process. Being able to get to get a timeout from the
planning aspects can certainly a refreshing moment during the lead up to your wedding day. Maybe
there is a dress she has been eyeing for a casual outing, so go get it and make your session fun, relaxing and rewarding.
