Where to begin to explain this? In Canada, the schooling system is broken into elementary, middle school & high school. So, what you see here is her ceremony celebrating her leaving behind middle school and entering high school. The first of six kids and the apple of her parent’s eyes, now entering a new chapter in her life, as she leaves Saint Raphael Catholic School. You could feel the intensity and excitement barely contained in her eyes. Words failed her and all she could do was smile from behind those beautiful eyes.
This day started out with extra gloomy clouds and heavy rains threatening to stop the hustle and bustle of the day’s events. But as Torontonians normally do, we weather the storm and carry on. The sun finally made an appearance just in time to shine light onto the day. Its amazing how the times have surely changed, as graduation ceremonies are more elaborate and have more intricate details and nuances than I remember. The latest dress trends walked between the pillars in this catholic school ceremony with the doers, achievers, and trend setters of tomorrow.
The documentary part of my brain was wired and ready to bounce into action capturing all the integral moments that will have Kianna remembering this day for a lifetime. Always with curious eyes, I watched as the ceremony unveiled, switching gears into paparazzi mode after the ceremony to capture some much-awaited family and peer images. Proud smiles of having come this far and making her parents proud, this night was dedicated to Kianna with absolutely no distraction.
As I watched, with my eyes that have been photographing this little girl for over 14 years, I did not realize that I had just walked right past her. She had blossomed into this beautiful young lady. I literally had to take a double look to realize that in fact it was Kianna. Can I just say that I was nothing short of proud myself, having watched her growth into the person in front of me. I was overwhelmed with a sense of pride when I took a moment to realize that this proud mother, Laura, has allowed me to capture these huge milestones of her family life for the last 14 years. The investments that Laura places in the special moments of her family’s lives will keep all their memories vivid for the span of their lives.
High school, here she comes…we wish her nothing but the best life has to offer!
