Followed by those first frantic moments where life is brought into a new world, there is a moment of silence which comes before the crying, the moment where this cute little being gazes up and locks eyes with mommy and daddy for the first time. They look at this squirmy, tiny newborn baby thinking about how they will love and protect, nurture and counsel them in the lifespan they will share with you and this tiny being looks back with a gaze that says “I’m gonna make you work for it”.
As a photographer, we are introduced to the newest citizens of life for brief moments when sessions are booked, and we get to capture those the first moments for parents that will become more valuable with each passing year. But what about those clients whose moments you have captured since the birth of their new joy? Meet Kianna. By fortuitous nature, we have watched and documented her cultivation to a young woman from her first session as a heart-warming month-old baby.
From the beginning, her odyssey has brought us to holidays, milestone moments such as her communion and confirmation, to watching her graduate and move on to high school. Being part-Latin, her Quinceanera was a significant moment in her journey for everyone involved, Kianna, parents and both of us as her story tellers. Her mom, Laura, began planning for this time years in advance of its arrival and reminded us to be ready!
Fast forward to her moment.
No story is effectively told without a beginning; therefore, we always delight in being with our clients from the formation stages of any day-long event. The prep for Kianna’s day was quite chock-full of enthusiasm from her Court of Honour, her closest friends which by tradition is made of 15 people including the Quinceanera. Kianna’s day was themed by Disney’s Beauty & the Beast. The initial scene was no small party, as Kianna is also part of large family with five siblings.
Once Kianna was in her ball gown and her traditional components, such as her “last doll” and tiara amongst others, were ready it was off to the church for a Kianna’s thanksgiving Catholic Mass. During this religious ceremony, the Quinceanera receives blessings that follows her in passage into becoming a young woman.
What was clear to see from the memories of this day was the impact this young woman has had on the many people in her life. The emotion was all over the faces of those close to her. From the pride in John Rey’s face as he moved Kianna into her stilettos from flats, to the emotions we captured on Laura’s face as she watched Kianna’s transformation, to the pride of Kianna’s Godparents as they spoke astonishingly about their goddaughter…Kianna has impacted the lives of those closest to her.
Laura, we have considered this storytelling venture of her life to be our honour. We are overjoyed that majestic stars have aligned to allow us to follow Kianna on her journey. Thank you for welcoming us into your family, becoming a part of our family and allowing us to tell the story of Kianna’s adventure while believing in our devotion to cast light into the elegance of this Quinceanera.
