We are certainly living through unprecedented times during the COVID-19 pandemic; however, our lives and their special moments have not stopped, we have just changed how we go about achieving the same result differently. Babies are still being born, our children are still growing, and we are still documenting and story telling those moments for clients. 

When we ventured out to Hamilton’s Dundurn Castle we were in some unchartered water, operating differently as we went about doing what we have always done, but in a way that kept both Christian, Melissa and family safe as well as us. However, even while operating under new measures we were able to really grab the essence of this young family and really document each of their personalities uniquely during this family portrait session.

Each member of Christian and Melissa’s clan, some at different points, got into the groove of the moment and were easy flowing to capture. Cassim (the lone boy in the family) was, start to finish, ready to shine in front of the camera like a star! Its always a badge of honour, and fun really, for photographers to look back at clients they have documented over the years to see how they have grown. We caught Cassim early on when he was new to the world. Amethyst (the little one) had different waves of adorable emotions, Acasia put her beautiful smile on display after a few tickles from Daddy and Azelya (first born) displayed some of her individuality in some spotlight photos of her. 

This family was full of tenderness, laughs and a sense of togetherness that was quite unique to capture in the moments of this session. These will be moments that years from now will bring them back to that hot July day in 2020 (33 degrees, feeling more like 40 with the humidity) where despite the pandemic all around them they were able to just a family and were able to be out enjoying the world they were living in.

When the COVID pandemic is behind us, it will be remembered for the things it has taught us, like the importance of family and well being, and for the way it has in many forms forced to reset life. COVID will be a part of our history that is documented and will have stories told about it for generations to come, but what will be really special, will be to have documented memories of what it was like to gone through the pandemic and remember how it changed our daily lives.
