So as many wedding clients go, Tony and Heather were not like other wedding clients. While their wedding day had all the traditional elements like the ceremony, the cake cutting and the garter toss amongst other things, this was certainly one of the coolest weddings we have had the honour to be a part of. When we say, “coolest weddings”, we mean that both literally and figuratively!
The first time we meet any couple to discuss their wedding with them it’s always about matching their expectations with our style, which can bring the terrifying notion of showing clients that the best weddings are those that are all about the real life moments we tend to capture and that its not a photoshoot. We bring into play a merger of documentary and stylized portraits throughout a couple’s day in order to bring their story to life for years to come. In the same breath, the marrying of the plan for what the day should look like and the unknown, the in-between moments that are not planned but captured in the moment, makes it all that much more compelling for both the couple and us.
Their day too did not have your typical setting, as it was in February, which comes with its own charm when you live in Toronto, Canada. On this day it was -18°C, and can I just say that they were very cool cats to photograph, indoors and out, and we loved every moment of their day.
Their day was like a playground that we got to play in, document and create without any restrictions. The spirit of the sound from the DJ was an old school vibe that truly hit your soul. The bride was a prankster and the groom had a great sense of humour, and you will see as you scroll through the images. The roasting he got was priceless and people, including us, were bursting at the seems. Tony was subjected to some humorous moments and he went along with it all and it really made the day a blast!
Having been with them from start to finish, as we are with all of our weddings, we were able to document their day with many memories of both traditional and little “in the moment” laughs, it is these moments that we love to tell when we are brought in, not just to photograph a day, but to tell their story.
