“He looked at her the way all women want to be looked at by a man.”
~ F. Scott Fitzgerald, “The Great Gatsby”
When we are young and in love there comes a moment when the one who loves us most gives us the ring we so desire and long for. When we get this ring, this commitment for life, is it for life? Inspired by The Great Gatsby and laced with Lana Del Rey’s haunting melody of Young and Beautiful came this stylized photoshoot.
Had my cake now
Diamonds, brilliant, in Bel-Air now
Hot summer nights, mid July
When you and I were forever wild
The crazy days, city lights
The way you’d play with me like a child
When I’m no longer young and beautiful?
Will you still love me
When I’ve got nothing but my aching soul?”
~ Lana Del Rey
When we wear the ring, it is the commitment from two souls that have dug deep and searched within themselves and found that the existing love is so deep and soulful that they simply cannot live without each other. Is this the love we all find?
Intoxicated by the sounds of this song that inspires love and also challenges one’s ability to love when there is nothing else, the concept was born. We wanted to showcase this emotion in two different time periods to show that this feeling can be displayed in different and unique styles and settings. Here you see the contemporary version of the concept, in contrast to the 1920’s version.
P.S. Shortly after the shoot, we got word that our “Gatsby” and “Daisy” in fact, got engaged! They FOUND that love!
